You rarely find pre-made kitchen cabinetry with inset style doors. Because of the tight tolerances between the frame and door, sizing and squareness are extremely critical. Often times a beaded frame is also desired adding even more materials and labor to create this style. Generally with this style an inset finial hinge is used to give it an authentic look. These hinges have very little adjustability making the tolerances even more crucial. From fabrication to installation this style of cabinetry is very labor intensive thus contributing to the higher costs. This style is highly coveted when...

To reface or not to reface, this is the question. Perhaps you have gotten one of those little flyer's in the mail that says “We can save you thousands on kitchen remodeling by refacing” The fact is that you may save some money initially but it may hurt you in the long run if the conditions are not quite right for your existing cabinets to be refaced. Common brand names of Quartz counter tops are Caesarstone, Zodiac, Silestone, Technistone, Legacy and Cambria . Engineered Stone is a non-porous material, made from a mixture of 93% quartz and 7% resin binders and pigments. It has the general appearance of natural stone, but with a consistent pattern and color. (The final product should be very close to what you see in the showroom.) The mineral quartz is very hard making it one of the most durable products for counter tops available. Combined with the resins and pigments it is much stronger than natural stone. It is resistant to stains caused...

If the cabinet layout is simple and the cabinets are an overlay style with no critical tolerances and some simple moldings perhaps a homeowner with a few tools with some carpentry skills may be capable of the installation. It is critical that the cabinets are installed plumb and level so the methods of proper shimming must be used. This is especially critical when using solid surface products for counter tops as there is no flexibility in the product itself when setting them on the base cabinetry. If as a homeowner you know of a capable finish carpenter with experience in installing cabinetry...

In light of today's techological advances we risk abandoning the art of historically respected trades. Of course there is an easier way to produce cabinetry, automated processes that are far more cost effective. The beauty is not in how many you make but in the character of each piece you craft. There are many things to consider when choosing cabinetry. Construction methods, materials used in case and drawer construction and door and drawer hardware are the biggest factors. If your simply shopping cost and are willing to accept what the stock cabinet manufactures have to offer then I can on...
